There is apparently a prohibition against self-promotion on social media. (I’ve never seen the actual sign or rule written down anywhere– heck where would you write it anyway). I’m not sure who created this un-capitalistic rule, but as a trained professional in the gray legal arts, it is my intent to find the loopholes that allow one to effectively self-promote on social media.

To start with, we need to lose the word self-promote, which has a stigma attached to it akin to that associated with “used cars” — i.e. heaps hustled by hucksters. The better expression is showcase your expertise. Heck, who’s going to argue with that phrase? Yes, I’m sure there are a few hairsplitters out there who will argue that self-promotion and showcasing one’s expertise are indeed two different things.
